Zuma Beach is a public beach in Malibu, California. It was one of the filming locations for the Brooklyn Nine Nine television show's Season 2 episode, Beach House. The scenes were shot in between lifeguard towers 6 and 7.
Use in Brooklyn Nine Nine[]
Scene
This location was used as the setting for the scenes outside Chateau Boyle where the squad go on a miserable 80-minute walk in the cold at Captain Holt's insistence. Scenes that took place inside Chateau Boyle were filmed 8 minutes down the road at a Malibu Beach House.
Behind the Scenes[]
- This was the first scene shot of this episode.
- The weather was the opposite of winter on the East Coast. In the always temperate Southern California, on a sunny day, it was warm. The cast had to dress in winter wear. The actors were just as miserable being warm and hot as the characters were cold.
- Everyone was late getting to this location, due to its distance from the city. They were supposed to be on the set, ready to work at 7:00 am. The first shot wasn't taken until 10:30 am.
- Dialogue from these scenes were recorded in a studio after filming to replace the initially recorded lines on set as the wind and bulky clothing didn't make for quality sound.
