Sal is the owner of Sal's Pizza and a longtime friend of Jake Peralta, one of his regular customers who has visited the restaurant since he was a child.

In Sal's Pizza, Sal is the victim of arson on his pizza place. Though Sal calls in Jake to help investigate, the firemen assume jurisdiction on the case, claiming that Sal probably torched it himself. Jake refuses to believe it, as Sal is his friend, and the pizza place holds memories.
