Episode Synopsis
In the previous episode gangster Seamus Murphy threatens Raymond Holt's husband, Kevin Cozner's, life. In response, Holt hides him in a safe house with Jake Peralta as his guard. Kevin and Jake spin into darkness one pizza pocket at a time while Charles and Rosa run an undercover operation at a hair salon. Gina joins as a gossip specialist to try and get information on Seamus. Meanwhile at the precinct, Amy and Terry discover Scully's hidden talent of putting puzzles together.
The episode starts with the execution of an elaborate plan to sneak Kevin out of his workplace and into a safe house, following the threat Seamus Murphy made to go after Holt's family last episode. Since Seamus has killed three witnesses in witness protection before, Holt placed Kevin in a Safe House separate from WITSEC. Jake volunteers to guard him for two months, while the Organized Crimes Unit are supposed to close in on Seamus, not having known that he will be entirely without his phone or the internet in general for the entire time period.
Nine weeks later, Holt gives them the news that Organized Crimes is planning on moving against Murphy the very same night. The whole squad is invited to watch the live feed of the raid from the safe house, only to see in real-time how the officers move into an empty mansion, someone seemingly having tipped Murphy off.
The squad starting their own investigation now, Rosa goes undercover as Gabriella Fuentes de San Miguel Estrada to get information out of Seamus' girlfriend, Nikki. With Gina guiding her on how to talk gossip through her earpiece, Rosa makes Nikki open up about her boyfriend, ultimately even sacrificing the color of her hair for the mission.
Meanwhile, Kevin and Holt get into a "vicious fight" since Holt is refusing to let his husband go to a library for even just two hours. Holt leaves once Kevin starts insinuating that they might divorce after all this is over. Jake and Kevin then agree to go behind Holt's back and enjoy some time outside with Kevin punching Jake in the throat to show that he knows self-defense. Disguised as perverts to blend in, they quickly creep out every visitor from the library, leaving Kevin with a safe place to work in. Holt, however, has put four GPS trackers on Jake and catches them red-handed.
In the precinct, Terry is busy putting together a room literally filled with shredded documents from the Murphy family, managing two words in two hours, before Scully notices their plight and reveals that he is a jigsaw puzzle expert, gathering together half a page in just a few seconds.
On the bus back to the safe house, Holt notices a man following them from the library so he tells Jake and Kevin to run off at the next station. Holt blocks the pursuer's path from the bus, who pulls out a gun and kidnaps the captain. Stranded at a bus station, Jake calls Rosa, who reveals that Nikki told them that Murphy was staying in Rhinebeck, New York. Scully quickly searches the pile for the "Rhinebeck letter" and tells them the address.
Jake finds the address, walks up to one of the windows to get Holt's attention and swiftly gets captured, as well. Jake reveals that he only took Kevin out so that he would keep them from getting divorced, having grown up around so many broken families.
Before Murphy can do any harm to them, however, Kevin drives through the wall with their commandeered car, knocking out the kidnapper in the process, and throat punches Murphy, although refusing to call him a dirt bag.
Back at the precinct, Holt informs Jake that their operation led to the FBI being able to roll out on Murphy's entire organization, calling it one of the most significant RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) prosecutions ever done. Kevin admits that he will miss Jake.
