Episode Synopsis

After a streak of really bad luck, Jake Peralta thinks he's being sabotaged by an enemy. Raymond Holt assigns Amy Santiago and Rosa Diaz to investigate the truth. Meanwhile, Holt hurts Gina Linetti's feelings by calling her dancing a "hobby," and Charles Boyle is stuck working a case with Norm Scully and Michael Hitchcock in Jake's absence.

  • On Monday Jake was late for the morning briefing because his power went out.
  • Tuesday it was because of not having any hot water.
  • Wednesday his car ran out of gas and his clothes disappeared from the laundromat.
  • On Thursday he makes sure to be early, but is greeted by Holt who tells him he failed his drug test.

Jake thinks he’s being sabotaged and Holt assigns Rosa and Amy to investigate. Meanwhile, Jake is suspended.

Terry assigns Hitchcock and Scully to help Boyle with an extortion case.

Holt and Terry forgot to go to Gina’s Dancy Reagen performance the night before. When Gina asks about it, he lies and pretends they were there. Holt lets Terry know that he doesn’t lie and will tell Gina the truth.

Jake tries to help Rosa and Amy with their investigation but they begin investigating Jake, which upsets him and he reluctantly leaves the precinct. They run into Jake waiting for them at Brooklyn Urine & Blood and ward him off reminding him of his suspension.

Gina, about to see Holt in his office, is intercepted by Terry who tries to keep her from Holt. She eventually asks him about the performance and he tells her the truth. He proceeds to apologize for missing it since he knows how dancing is an important hobby to her and she is insulted. As she shreds her spandex dance outfit she makes an announcement that Gina Linetti will never dance again.

Boyle updates Hitchcock and Scully on the Timo’s Limo case and snaps at their incompetence.

Jake pops out of the backseat of Amy and Rosa’s patrol car as they discuss plans to investigate the power outage at Jake’s building. He argues that they’re wasting time investigating him and they argue that it's because of his irresponsibility that they need to. He deletes their contacts from his phone out of anger and gets out of the car. They drive off after he refuses a ride home. As Jake gains his bearings an ice cream truck tries to run him over.

The driver of the ice cream truck turns out to be Geoffrey Hoytsman who takes Jake hostage. Jake is tied to a chair in the back of the ice cream truck as Hoytsman explains, at gunpoint, that he has been sabotaging Jake as revenge for arresting him in Jake and Sophia and ruining his life. While his sentence was reduced to 40 community hours, Hoytsman went on a cocaine and meth induced psychotic episode when he was supposed to be doing community work. After which he lost his job, his wife and his home and blames Jake for all of it.

Gina rolls around the office in her desk chair so she won’t be tempted to dance. Terry explains to Holt, who is confused by Gina’s response, that Gina doesn’t care about what everyone else thinks but she does care about what he thinks.

Jake is forced to make a video confession with a script written onto cue cards by Hoytsman. In it he accepts the blame for everything horrible Hoytsman has done with the ending being that Jake has decided to kill himself. After recording more than one take, Hoytsman deems the video complete and proceeds to snort cocaine off the ice cream freezer. Jake gets his attention and headbutts Hoytsman. Jake escapes by pushing himself, still tied to a chair, against the backdoor and falls out onto the street. Stuck on his back, Jake’s escape attempt fails.

Scully and Hitchcock tell Boyle that they solved the Timo Limo’s case. They listened to the voicemails and heard a bird in the background. They got a list of Timo Limo employees, did door duty and asked neighbors if anyone kept a pet bird. When they found someone who did they looked noticed the landscaping at their building used the same rocks as the one thrown through the window. Boyle says he can’t believe it and Hitchcock proceeds to throw a rock through the briefing room window to prove him wrong.

Gina is posting a flyer on the fridge selling all her dance equipment. Holt corrects his mistake by paying Dancy Reagan to perform at an at-risk event for kids.

Hoytsman berates Jake in the ice cream truck after his escape attempt when someone knocks on the window asking if they’re open. Hoytsman goes to answer and is pulled through the window onto the sidewalk while Santiago tells him he’s under arrest.

Amy and Rosa release Jake from his chair as they explain they noticed he hadn’t annoyed them for hours and thought something might be wrong. After looking at the selfies he had sent earlier they noticed the ice cream truck in the background. THey ran an alert for the license plates and found him. They all apologize to one another for not trusting each other.

Boyle checks Hitchcock and Scully’s evidence and praises them. He mentions he's going to let everyone know about their good job and they tell him not to. They did plenty of good work in the 70s and 80s and prefer to sit at their desks and don’t want attention drawn to them.

Two weeks later Holt is reinstating Jake in his office when Jake demands he get his gun and badge back in a vindication of the hero ceremony. Everyone crowds into Holt’s office and demands Holt do it until Holt takes his own gun and badge and presents it to Jake. Jake proceeds to give a speech on how the system stinks until Holt tells him to get out of his office.

Jake Peralta
Captain, this is insane. I don’t do drugs. I mean, sure, a couple of my teeth are loose but that’s from dental neglect, not meth.

Jake Peralta
I even have a receipt, because I keep all my receipts like a mature adult person. Laser tag, wheelie shoes, remote control monster truck, aha! Gas station. Someone drained my tank.

Jake Peralta
Alright fine, you can see my bank records. But I always pay my power bill. Often late. One time in person with Canadian pennies.

Amy Santiago
Go sightseeing. MoMA has an exhibit I’m dying to see. It’s all about office chair design.
