"Manhunter" is the 1st episode and the season premiere of Season Seven of the NBC television show Brooklyn Nine-Nine.[1] It aired on February 6, 2020.
Episode Synopsis[]
Jake leads a manhunt after an assassination attempt on a city councilor. Holt adjusts to his new position as a uniformed officer.
Plot[]
After an assassination attempt in Garfield Plaza, Jake is in charge of the manhunt for the active shooter. He is joined by Charles. While conducting his preliminary assessment of the scene, he notices civilians in the area and demands that the person responsible is removed from the case. He is approached by Officer Debbie Fogle and it is revealed that the officer in charge is Officer Holt (formerly Captain). Jake quickly becomes hesitant to punish Holt and struggles to command him.
Amy and Rosa are running perimeter control of the Plaza and are stationed at command tents surrounded by many other officers. Amy is very irritable and yells at one of the K-9s at the scene. Rosa sees that she is behaving strangely and Amy tells her that she is worried that she might be pregnant, which was not what Jake and Amy had planned. Terry interrupts their conversation and is confused by their sudden "hush-hush" behaviour upon seeing him enter. Rosa leaves to get pregnancy tests for Amy.
Jake and Charles continue their investigation and find that Holt is having difficulty acting as an officer and continues to work the case as if he was a detective, noting clues and commanding other officers. After Holt participates in a televised interview about the manhunt, Jake admits that Holt overstepped his authority. Jake sends Holt and Debbie away to patrol a random location to stop them from interfering with the case.
Amy and Rosa search through several pregnancy tests from a bodega before finding a usable one. Terry enters the tent again and gets upset, speculating that they are talking about him like his daughters at home. Amy and Rosa claim to be discussing their favorite porns and Terry leaves. Amy complains that she can't pee, and Rosa reassures her that she can just drink water.
Jake and Charles chase down and arrest the suspected shooter. Upon meeting the uniformed officers, Holt says that they arrested the wrong man. Jake accuses him of making this up because he is upset about being demoted but Holt insists he is correct. Jake lashes out and tells Holt that he is off the case.
Rosa tries to calm Amy down so she can pee. She suggests kicking something or someone, and then proceeds to make calming "glub" sounds for her. Terry once again enters the tents and begins ranting about his twins' behaviors and how they talked about him behind his back. He angrily leaves the tent and yells "don't have kids!", upsetting Amy.
Debbie reluctantly follows Holt as he attempts to find the actual shooter. Jake admits to Charles that Holt is likely correct and they continue investigating.
Jake gets help from Hitchcock and Scully to try to identify a hotdog seller which reveals to him that Holt's solve was correct. He attempts to contact Holt and Debbie by walkie-talkie but receives no response as they are being held at gunpoint by the shooter.
Terry enters the tent a final time and complains of Amy and Rosa gossiping about him. Amy finally snaps at him and kicks over a garbage can, which she realizes helped her to pee. She runs off to pee but is interrupted by Jake as he tells them that they need to find Holt and Debbie, who are in trouble. The squad manages to take down the perp.
Back at the precinct, Jake and Holt discuss their complicated relationship now that Holt has been demoted.
Later that night, Amy tells Jake about her suspected pregnancy earlier in the day. She tells him that she is not pregnant, but they admit that they would've been happy if she were actually pregnant. They decide to start trying to conceive.
Jake excitedly switches on the TV to watch his feature, but instead sees Hitchcock and Scully being interviewed and calling themselves the "Wiener Warriors"
