"Johnny and Dora" is the 23rd and final episode of Season Two of the FOX television show Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It originally aired on May 17, 2015 to 2.35 million viewers.
Episode Synopsis
Jake and Amy go undercover to catch Brooklyn’s most notorious identity thief, and the case brings them closer together – very close. Meanwhile, the entire precinct is caught off-guard when one of their own says goodbye to the Nine-Nine.
Plot
The episode begins with Scully shouting and Hitchcock consoling him, saying he has to be strong for her right now. Terry questions what's going on. The worker says the vending machine's being replaced, followed by disappointment by the squad. Jake says the machine is part of the force, and asks them to take Scully instead. Scully pleads "Take me to the land of vending machines." Jake asks for 5 minutes to say goodbye. He then plays "Amazing Grace" played by a bagpipe while the squad salutes. The vending machine tips over, and the squad runs to grab free candy.
At Morning Briefing, Jake introduces Michael Augustine, Brooklyn's most prolific thief. He says last week Augustine walked into a government building and stole a computer containing over 100,000 Social Security numbers. Jake's CI says tonight Augustine will hand off the laptop to a buyer from China, aka the "Land of Dragons". Holt urges Peralta to make sure he doesn't include that phrase in the official report. Jake then corrects it to "The Country of Dragons". Holt wants him and Santiago to tail Augustine and arrest him and the buyer, but Jake insists on taking Boyle. Holt then announces that Boyle and Diaz will join them in the surveillance van. Later Amy asks Peralta if she did something to him, to which he replies "Remember when you told me that you didn't want to date cops?", which he says that really bummed him out, because he wanted to ask her out. They agree to keep their relationship strictly professional and non-awkward.
Meanwhile Holt calls Gina and Terry to his office. He has news, and tells them to keep it a secret. He says Wuntch is making him Head of Public Relations for the NYPD, that he's being forced out of the Nine-Nine. Holt informs them about a letter that before their current police commissioner, before he was hired, Wuntch had written a letter to the mayor stating that it was a mistake. She called her now-boss a "simpering buffoon". Holt tells them a copy of that letter exists in the mayor's archives, and because he can't snoop around without alerting Madeline, he asks Gina and Terry to find that letter.
Charles walks up to Rosa, saying that he knows she doesn't like anyone wishing her a Happy Birthday, so he wishes her a crappy birthday. He states that he assumes that she wasn't going to celebrate tonight, so since she's free, he asks her to help him move a Ms. Pac-Man machine from a bar. Rosa quickly realizes that he wants her to go to a surprise party and asks if Marcus put him up to this. Charles denies the fact, saying they just need to be there at 9:45, and there's an exact door he wants her to go through.
Jake, Amy, Charles and Rosa follow Augustine to a restaurant, where he has the laptop with him. Charles says this place has an amazing bone marrow custard. Amy says she and Jake look too much like cops, so she unbuttons her shirt and wears Rosa's jacket, and Jake puts on Scully's coat.
When they enter the restaurant, it is fully booked up, until Amy claims that she and "Johnny" (Peralta) just got engaged, and this was where they had their first date. Johnny agrees and says he would've booked a reservation sooner, but he didn't know if Dora (Amy) was going to say yes. The hostess tries to find them a table. They sit next to Augustine and his date, who asks them many questions about their relationship.
Meanwhile Gina and Terry reach the 4th floor Archives. According to Gina's sources, the letter is in cabinet J-13. Their plan is Terry sneaks in and grabs the letter, and Gina distracts the file clerk, who's into bird watching. Terry struggles to find the letter and Gina is desperately trying to distract the file clerk. They find the letter and show it to Holt.
At the restaurant, Augustine tells his date to wait in the car, while he talks to the chef. Amy and Jake follow him, thinking that the chef is the buyer from China. After being spotted by Augustine, they kiss in order to keep their cover.
When they tell Charles and Rosa, Charles instantly freaks out happily and Augustine leaves the package at a park, so Amy and Jake follow him and hide by a tree.
Holt shows Wuntch the letter, and he asks her if she wants to give him his precinct back, but she tells him it's not that simple, she can't just reverse his promotion.
Johnny and Dora spot the buyer from China waiting for the perfect time to take the laptop. They kiss, and the buyer tries to take the laptop, but Santiago and Peralta raise their guns and arrest him. Back at the precinct, they tell each other they don't want anything to change; to keep their relationship professional.
When Rosa and Charles arrive at the bar, she sees that Marcus rented the entire bar just for the two of them.
Back at the precinct, Madeline tells Holt that he can show the letter to the commissioner, but it will take months to authenticate. She threatens to make some personnel changes: transfer Rosa to Brighton Beach, Charles to Long Island, Amy to Pelham Bay and Peralta to Staten Island. Holt then announces that he is leaving the precinct, effective immediately, to work at the public relations office. The squad, especially Santiago, is upset, and Jake asks him to be robot captain again.
Jake finds Amy, who is still processing the information. They share a kiss, before Charles calls them to see who the new Captain is. The squad is speculating on who the new Captain will be. The elevator doors open.

Cultural References
- Trying to lure Rosa to a surprise birthday party, Charles mentions that he needs her to help him transport a Ms. Pac-Man game he has recently purchased. Ms. Pac-Man is an arcade video game released in the 1980s.
- Since the only sports coat they have available is much too large, Charles suggest that Jake “Don Johnson it.” Don Johnson is an actor, whose character on Miami Vice would wear sports jackets with the sleeves pushed up.
- Gina asks the file clerk if a bird they are discussing sounds like Rihanna. The “eh, eh,” sound is prominent in Rihanna’s popular song “Umbrella.”
- Prepared to take down Deputy Chief Wuntch, Holt asks for a bucket of water in order to melt a witch. This is referencing The Wizard of Oz, where the Wicked Witch of the West is defeated using the same method.
- Madeline Wuntch tells Holt she feels like Jackie Joyner-Kersee, a famous American athlete who won 6 Olympic medals.
- Amy, as Dora, says that she and Johnny are going on their honeymoon in Waco, Texas. Amy then reveals to Jake that she just saw the town on Dateline NBC. Waco, Texas is infamous for the 1993 FBI siege of a religious commune where a fire killed 76 people.
- Charles said he played Daddy Warbucks in his high school's production of Annie, and made out with the the girl who played the title character. In the play, Daddy Warbucks is Annie’s adoptive father.
- It is revealed that Rosa is upset with the way the show Gilmore Girls ended.
- Teasing Amy about how long it takes her to write her signature, Jake says he’s going to watch the film Braveheart while he waits. The runtime for Braveheart is nearly 3 hours.
- Gina leaving the Nine-Nine with Captain Holt could be a reference to a similar scene in the film Jerry Maguire.

Trivia
- Charles mentions playing Daddy Warbucks in a high school play. While in elementary school Andy Samberg played the same role in a school play. His classmate Chelsea Peretti also had a role.[1]
- At the end of the episode, there is actually no one standing in the elevator, as the new Captain had not been cast yet.[2]
