Episode Synopsis

Jake hits it off with a woman at a bar (guest star Eva Longoria) but later finds out she is the defense attorney for a perpetrator he is trying to put in jail. Meanwhile, Gina and Charles work to put their relationship behind them, and Amy is pressured into running for union rep against Norm Scully.

While having a drink with Terry, Jake mentions his dismal dating life. Terry offers advice to talk about something other than work, which Jake puts into action with Sophia Perez, a woman at the bar.

Rosa and Amy come to Holt with concerns about Scully running for Union Rep. He has been the precinct’s rep for the past twelve years for the party sub at the annual meeting. Holt states that he can’t get involved and Rosa recommends Amy run for the position. Because of her desire to be Captain and unions being notorious for fighting with upper management, Amy declines.

Jake and Sophia bond over trying the spiciest wings on the bar’s menu.

Boyle and Gina return each other’s items from when they were hooking up. He reminds her of the hotel room they booked that is non-refundable. They both want to use the room which starts a war between them.

Hitchcock and Scully confront Amy for her posters announcing her union rep campaign. Caught off guard, she tells them Rosa must’ve made them and she’ll get her to stop.

In the courtroom for a trial of a diamond heist case, Jake tells Terry how he scored the night before. Their attorney updates them about a new defense lawyer who happens to be the woman Jake slept with the night before. Sophia and Jake catch up in the courtroom and he decides he’s going to get her kicked off the case.

Amy goes to Holt for help but he once again tells them he can’t get involved. Rosa tempts Amy with a button maker which she scoffs at the model’s lack of features.

Jake tries to get Sophia kicked off the case but her client approves her staying and the judge tells them to proceed.

A popular food blogger contacted Charles and wants to meet him that night. Tina Knowles contacted Gina to audition that night. Rosa points out the irony that they both have big plans that night.

The trial begins and Sophia destroys Jake’s witness. Jake and Sophia argue/flirt during the court recess. He gathers the squad for help finding last minute evidence and they all pick on him for sleeping with a defense attorney.

Amy is sabotaging the election by gluing cutouts of Scully’s head onto her campaign posters. She prepared a speech that is too long and has a section where she picks people out and insults them. Holt calls her into his office for a pow-wow and tells her she’s making a mistake.

The next day at the trial Jake presents the new evidence he found the night before. Sophia uses it against him and eventually wins the case. After the verdict is read, Terry talks some sense into Jake about how he actually likes Sophia.

Boyle and Gina try to convince Holt to have one or the other work overnight. He sees through it and has them both work overnight instead.

Scully gives his campaign speech that focuses on the party sub. Amy gives hers which mentions she’ll bring back party sub leftovers and uses Rosa’s slogan, “Pick Amy dummies.”

Jake finds Sophia’s office and asks her out on a date to a bar that has ping pong tables. She agrees and lays down the rule of not talking about their jobs.

While working overnight together Charles and Gina realize they both gave their parents the hotel room they purchased. Their parents are seen meeting up in the hotel room with Gina’s mom stating that Gina’s been encouraging her to have romantic adventures.

  • Jake said if someone has a clone, you have to brand the number two into your clone's cheek --which is what is revealed to have happened in The 6th Day.

  • Terry tells Jake he and his wife became closer because they spent their first night talking about their mutual appreciation for the singer Meat Loaf.

Connections to Other Episodes

  • When Gina and Charles are returning the items they've left at each others' places, you can see Charles' food dehydrator on Gina's desk. The dehydrator previously appeared in the Season One episode [[Charges and Specs]] in a scene when Vivian was returning Charles' things after their break-up.
  • When they are in conflict over the hotel room, Boyle tells Gina that he is "backing up" instead of backing down, and proceeds to bend over and backs up into her, beeping like a truck. This is in reference to The Jimmy Jab Games, in which Gina tells Boyle "it does not turn me on when you bend over and back up into me."
