In Dillman, Jake and Holt walk out of Holt’s office to find Scully covered in red glitter. Scully explains that there was a box on Jake’s desk, and he opened it, resulting in the explosion. Jake blames Officer Booth for the prank and messes up his name.
Charles figures out later on that it was Officer Booth who pulled the prank. Booth is the brother-in-law of a prosecutor in court - ADA Greene. The prosecution did not have enough evidence for the case and wanted someone to blame it on. Greene, through his brother-in-law, rigged the glitter bomb on Jake’s desk. The glitter contaminated the evidence of the Dekalb Street murder.
