Episode Synopsis[]
Jake and Amy get a major honeymoon upgrade, but their time in paradise is derailed by an unexpected guest. Back at the Nine-Nine, Gina and Charles get into a familial squabble and Top Dog Terry struggles to live up to his new nickname.
At the morning briefing Gina Linetti announces that Captain Holt is taking a personal day. Rosa is concerned about him and Terry gives an update on Holt’s status, which is improving at 8.6% per day. Jake and Amy strut in with a large stack of cash. They received a refund for their wedding and they’re going on their honeymoon to a resort in Mexico at a resort that Gina is a referral rewards member at.
Upon their arrival at the resort Amy spots Captain Holt with a tropical drink in the lounge. He explains that he tried to go to work after not getting the commissioner position and found himself on an airplane to Mexico. Having not packed for the trip he bought a bundle of novelty shirts from a gift shop. When Jake tries to figure out why he’s at the exact same tiny resort as them, Holt points out that Gina’s been talking up the place for years. They decide to make the best of it with Holt staying out of their way.
While doing things at the resort Jake and Amy continually bump into Holt. While swimming, getting massages and going out to dinner, him and his depressed state are right alongside them.
At the precinct, Rosa Diaz comes to Terry Jeffords with a problem that she needs upper-level guidance for. Confident, Terry refers to himself as Top Dog Terry and gives her answers to her problems. Rosa explains why each idea won’t work and Terry’s left questioning himself.
Charles Boyle talks to Gina Linetti about their parents getting divorced and Gina claims to not know anything while Boyle brainstorms reasons. Gina lets it slip that she actually does know the reason.
Jake and Amy devise a plan to include Holt in their romantic activities in hopes it’ll cheer him up and he’ll leave. They take a sensual cooking class, get mud masks and bathe in a large tub together. Holt announces they helped him see there’s more than the NYPD and that he’s ready to leave.
While getting drinks to celebrate, Jake runs into Holt checking out. When Jake says he’ll see him back at the Nine-Nine Holt tells him he won’t because he’s never going back there again and plans to quit the NYPD. Jake offers to drive him to the airport and traps Holt in his hotel room when they go to get his car keys.
Thinking they’re alone Amy comes out of the bathroom dressed as Holly Gennaro ready to seduce Jake. Jake explains that Holt’s going to quit the NYPD. To keep him from doing so they tie him to their bed using things from the Lover’s Toolbox that Charles Boyle sent them.
Charles Boyle tries to unlock Gina’s phone using a large mask of Gina’s face and wearing a wig. He manages to unlocks it by holding it up to her face and reads texts that Gina sent her mom, including ones where she said she has to divorce him and don’t tell him why.
Terry is now trying to find Captain Holt’s manual he created for his replacement when he got the commissioner position and tries to sign into Holt’s computer.
Amy tries to talk some sense into Holt to no avail. Jake makes an attempt by explaining how he’s emotionally connected to him and Holt calls him selfish. Hurt on Jake’s behalf, Amy snaps and lets Holt know how terrible he’s been. She encourages him to quit because she no longer cares so much about him.
Gina tells Charles about her mother cheating and that she did encourage her mother to divorce his father on account of her being nasty. She dind’t tell them because she didn’t want to hurt them.
Rosa finds the manual and has Terry read a part where Holt wrote that if ever in question to go to Jeffords because he trusts him. Terry tells Rosa exactly what to do and Terry’s confidence replenishes.
Holt interrupts Jake and Amy’s drinks and apologizes. He untied himself from the bed and came to his senses. He plans to not give a hoot about the NYPD and will make waves from the inside. He pays for Jake and Amy to stay and have a proper honeymoon and goes back to New York.
Jake and Amy return from their honeymoon and run into Holt on their way up to the 4th floor. He explains that he did what he said he was going to and the commissioner has closed the first floor for renovations indefinitely as retaliation.
