Episode Synopsis

Nikolaj's birth father shows up wanting to see his son. Charles' reaction escalates the situation and Jake steps in. Rosa has a case she needs CSI's assistance with but Holt's battle with commissioner John Kelly keeps him from approving her request. Amy recommends an alternative, Dr. Yee, the forensic entomologist. While all of this is happening Terry becomes obsessive about bugs being on his facial hair.

Gintars Irbe has come from Latvia to New York City, NY, USA to meet his son, Nikolaj Boyle. With information from his half-brother Dragomir, he tracks down Charles Boyle on the streets of Brooklyn.

Rosa and Terry come to Captain Holt with a request for CSI to investigate a murder with no obvious evidence. Amy provides the alternative of bringing in Dr. Yee instead. He has developed a breed of fly that can sense untraceable blood.

Jake convinces Charles to allow a first meeting between the two with the caveat that Gintars cannot tell Nikolaj he is his birth father. Nikolaj greets Gintars and he tries to keep it casual but blurts out that he is his real father. This makes Nikolaj question Charles who covers it with a lie about him being crazy on account of not having children. Gintars begs Charles to allow him to spend time with Nikolaj while he's in town for the next 10 days.

Dr. Yee has arrived as Amy and Holt trip over themselves. Skeptical of Dr. Yee from the start, Rosa questions his methods and asks for the facts. He demonstrates what the flies do if they see blood; when holding a stick with blood up to the flies they swarm around it.

Nikolaj and Gintars get together again and play basketball. Nikolaj starts calling Gintars "Daddy Gintars," which upsets Charles who spirals. This causes Jake to come up with a plan to get rid of Gintars.

At the suspected place of the murder, Amy and Holt watch and lose their minds as Dr. Yee works. He walks around the apartment holding out the container of flies and they don't respond. Rosa argues that her timeline puts the crime there and he dismisses her, using Amy’s quote “the flies don’t lie.”

Jake meets Gintars at a bathhouse and refuses to take off his robe on account of it having a mic in it. He pretends to want a cut of his counterfeit business, Gape, but Gintars holds steady that it is not a knock-off of Gap. After Jake reveals the dark secret of why he can't take off his towel, Gintars admits that he stole the whole idea from Gap, which Jake records on his mic.

Rosa gets a hold of the fly container and swabs actual blood directly from Hitchcock. She tests it on the flies and they don't respond. She and Terry storm into Holt's office and call out Yee as a fraud. Holt and Amy respond defensively while Yee admits that he never could get the flies to do what he promised. To get them to react he uses a stick with popsicle on it instead of blood.

Gintars meets Jake and brings some jeans that are 100% denim-ish. Unexpectedly, Charles shows up with Nikolaj. He realized that it meant a lot to Nikolaj to know that he hadn't been abandoned. While Gintars and Nikolaj are enjoying a little bonding, a cop car pulls up and two officers aggressively place Gintars under arrest for counterfeiting. They take him to the airport where he is forced to leave the country, Nikolaj gets to spend a few hours with Gintars at a restaurant there.

In the end Rosa got the perpetrator to confess by threatening the use of Yee's flies. Holt and Amy immediately call Yee to let him know so he can feel better.
