Dr. Gertrude Mindel is a couples counselor in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn, New York. She is portrayed by the actor and television writer, Emily Spivey.
Throughout The Series[]
In the Season Two episode, Chocolate Milk, Dr. Mindel meets with Terry Jeffords and Jake Peralta. Terry thinks he's there investigating a lead, but Jake has actually booked him a last minute couples counseling appointment hoping he'd talk about his subconscious vasectomy concerns. When Terry discovers that's why he's in Dr. Mindel's office, he storms out and Dr. Mindel notes that he left just like Jake's father left him, which Jake never told her about.

The actress who portrays Dr. Gertrude Mindel, Emily Spivey, was a lead writer on Saturday Night Live from 2001 - 2021. She worked alongside Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Michael Schur and Andy Samberg. She was also a writer on Micahel Schur's previous show, Parks and Recreation, where she worked alongside Brooklyn Nine-Nine's other co-creator, Dan Goor.
