Chasing Amy is the 18th episode of the Season Four in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine television series. It premiered on May 9, 2017 to 1.61 million viewers.
Episode Synopsis[]
Amy Santiago suddenly vanishes hours before taking the Sergeant Exam, and it's up to Jake Peralta and Rosa Diaz to find her before it's too late. Meanwhile, Terry Jeffords and Raymond Holt devise a plan to spruce up the soft room by adding in model trains for children who come into the precinct. Gina Linetti and Charles Boyle debate over who gets the Mother Dough left by Great Nana Boyle after she died.
Amy’s stressed because she’s taking the Sargent’s exam that only happens once every 3 years. To help her to calm down Jake creates an environment full of distractions for Amy to take a practice test in hopes she’d see how prepared she already is.
Terry notices the “soft room” for kids in the precinct is lacking in activities for the children. When bringing it up to Holt they discover they’re both fans of model trains and plan to create a model train set for the kids to play with.
Charles gives Gina the Boyle family sourdough starter that Great Nana Boyle accidentally left Gina in her will. Gina then extorts Charles for $10,000 after seeing his desperation for it.
Instead of calming her down it does the opposite and she freaks out and leaves without anyone noticing, leaving a note telling Jake she isn’t taking the Sargent’s Exam. Rosa and Jake begin a hunt for her.
Charles pays Gina $12,000 and more for the Mother Dough and Gina reveals that she left it beneath her desk near Jacinta, her space heater, burnt it to a crisp.
Jake role plays as Amy which leads them to the library.
While building the train set Terry and Holt disagree if model trains are for imagination or recreating the world in miniature form. They agree to make separate train sets which the child can choose from.
The librarian tells them Amy called a car service from her phone. From there they follow Amy’s trail to the Department of Records where Amy’s best and only friend, Kylie, works. Due to Jake’s dismal participation as a Trivia Newton John team mate, Kylie reluctantly helps them. She finds a file that was accessed that tips Jake off to where Amy is.
A child, Dylan, arrives at the precinct and Holt and Terry try to win him over with each of their different train sets. He asks to play video games and informs them that trains are lame and nobody plays with them.
Two Boyle cousins, Tina and Sam, arrive at the precinct with an Officer of the Court to collect the Mother Dough just as Charles is explaining to Gina that she will be kicked out of the family for burning it. When she tells them what happened Sam banishes them both from the family.
Jake finds Amy at the rooftop of 397 Barton Street, which is where he and Santiago conducted surveillance in the Season One episode, The Bet. Amy explains that she didn’t mess up the test, but because she realized things could change between her and Jake. He calms her fears by telling her she can’t be afraid to be successful and that he’s always known she’d be his boss. They go to leave and learn the door to the rooftop is locked.
They can’t get a hold of Rosa and have only 20 minutes left until the test starts. Jake fulfills a Die Hard fantasy and jumps off the side of the roof with a fire hose tied to him only to discover he can’t burst through the windows because they have bars on them.
Terry and Holt discuss how nobody likes model trains and Terry tries to swoon Holt into recognizing how lucky they are they found one other person they can share their love of model trains with. Holt plays cool only to coalesce and the two combine their train sets to play together.
Rosa comes to the rooftop looking for Jake and Amy to find Jake hanging off the side of the building. She takes care of Jake while Amy goes to take the test.
While Charles is longingly going through family vacation photos Christina and Sam show up back at the precinct. Gina invited them there to show them the new Mother Dough she made as an attempt to get Boyle back into the family. After agreeing to give them full access to her apartment they agree.
