Beth McCarthy-Miller is a prolific American director and producer who is one of only four directors to have directed the late night sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live since it began in 1975. She served as director in Brooklyn Nine-Nine of five episodes that ranged from the first season to the sixth.

Pre Brooklyn Nine Nine[]

She attended the University of Maryland, where she was a DJ and majored in radio, television and film. While in college she interned at CNN and MTV, which connected her with Jon Stewart, whose first show she left MTV to direct. After its cancellation in 1995 she was hired to replace SNL's original director after his retirement, which she did successfully for eleven years. In 2006 she left Saturday Night Live and has gone on to direct nearly every popular television and award show.

Michael Schur, co-creator of Brooklyn Nine Nine, began as a writer on Saturday Night Live when Beth McCarthy-Miller was in her third year of directing the television show. In 2001 he became the producer for the segment, Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live.

Beth McCarthy-Miller served as Executive Producer and director for the 2019 popular CBS sitcom, Bob Hearts Abishola for its six season run, among many other tv shows, made for tv movies, live specials and pilots.
