Episode Synopsis[]
The team is excited to spend the weekend at Charles Boyle's beach house for a detectives-only-getaway, until Jake Peralta ruins the fun by inviting Raymond Holt. Meanwhile, Charles helps Rosa Diaz send romantic texts to her new boyfriend, and Gina Linetti tries to get Amy Santiago drunk to see what 6 drink Amy is like.
Gina walks out of Holt's office, holding a bag. Peralta notices that Holt has no pants on, because he walked to his office, holding soup, yelled "Ouch!", called Gina into his office, she went holding nothing and left holding a bag with Holt's pants. Jake then tries to get him to admit he's in his undies. Finally Holt admits it, and Jake also spills soup on his pants and the two sit behind a desk with no pants on.
Jake walks into the break room, holding the directions to the annual Detectives-Only Getaway, which is being held at Charles and his ex-wife's beach house. Charles reveals they split the beach house in the divorce, and he gets it for December-February. Jake reminds the squad that there will be no spouses, no bosses and no work. Terry can't wait, saying that this weekend, he is Vacation Terry.
Gina approaches Amy, who's packing 2 bottles of vodka. She asks her if this is the time she will finally meet Six-Drink Amy, the pinnacle of the Santiago Drunkeness Scale. One drink, Amy's a little spacey, two drinks, Amy's loud, three drinks, Amy dance pants, four drinks, Amy's a bit of a pervert and five drinks, Amy's weirdly confident, but Gina's never met Six-Drink Amy.
The squad leaves the precinct to go to the Beach House. Marcus is waiting by his car and gives Rosa a phone charger, telling her to juice it up for some long-distance texting. Meanwhile, Jake is in Holt's office. Holt tells him he was always excluded from these types of events as a gay black detective. Because Jake felt bad, he invites him to go the beach house with the squad.
At the beach house, the squad is disappointed to see that Jake shows up with Holt. Jake tries to defend himself, saying that Terry is their boss and he comes with them every year, but Terry says he's Vacation Terry at the moment, he is no man's boss. Only Hitchcock and Scully are happy that the Captain is here, as they have an "exciting" investment opportunity to pitch him. Jake says he will prove that the vacation will be more fun with the Captain around.
While they are eating, the squad tries to gossip about detectives, only to which Holt compliments the detectives on their detective skills. Holt suggests that they go for a walk on the beach after lunch, in the middle of Winter. After 20 minutes, Jake asks when they should turn around, to which the Captain replies "In another 20 minutes." so they go on an 80-minute walk. Because of the cold weather, Terry presents Amy and Gina with a mini-cogniac from his fanny. Later they sit in the hot tub. Rosa has a t-shirt on over her swimsuit, as it's a little bit to be in a swimsuit on in front of the captain. Holt cannot hear anyone, and asks that the jets be turned off. Later the squad smokes cigars, and listen to Holt tell stories about his partner.
Jake decides to have two parties, one with the Captain upstairs, and a fun one with just them downstairs. He informs them that shifts will be 20 minutes and staggered and at least 3 of them have to be with him in the room at all times. At the party upstairs, they listen to boring recorder music and Holt talking. Since Amy's had 5 drinks, she's weirdly confident and asks Holt for a raise. When almost everyone is at the downstairs party, Holt comes downstairs, only to find the detectives having a party without him. Charles teaches Rosa how to text Marcus "properly", while Amy is on the floor and about to be very sick. Jake and Holt are in the hot tub talking. Later the squad plays "Real Ray or Fake Ray?" where Peralta says a phrase and the squad has to guess if the captain actually said it or not.

Behind The Scenes[]
- Originally the episode was going to be a Boyle story, of him cleaning up and learning that his ex-wife was spying on him. Some of the jokes remained to lend a little more depth to Charles' divorce.
- Special effects made the bubbles in the hot tub silent for filming. It was a fun joke for those on the set when Captain Holt asks to turn them off because he can't hear over them.
- The weather was the opposite of winter on the East Coast. In the always temperate Southern California, on a sunny day, it was warm. The cast had to dress in winter wear for the walking scene. The actors were just as miserable being warm and hot as the characters were cold.
- Dialogue from scenes on the beach were recorded in a studio after filming to replace the initially recorded lines on location as the wind and bulky clothing didn't make for quality sound.
- Numerous cast and crew cite the scenes of Holt's boring upstairs party as the most difficult scenes of the entire series to get through without laughing. Andre was taking particular joy in trying to get everyone to laugh. Everyone on set broke after every take.[1]
- During filming in Malibu Andy Samberg, Joel McKinnon Miller, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero and Chelsea Peretti stayed at a motel and went to a restaurant by the beach.
- Melissa Fumero picked this episode as one of her top 3 favorite episodes to shoot because of this.[2]
- Paparazzi caught Melissa Fumero and Andre Braugher on the beach. [3]
